Middle Eastern Beauty Secrets: Argan Oil

Argan Oil

Once a beauty secret kept safe by Middle Eastern women, argan oil is now spreading around the world, with woman from China to the United States swearing by its almost magical beauty properties. Amongst my Lebanese family, we’ve always known that argan oil is a beauty must-have. It can be used in a wide variety of ways:

Argan oil makes an amazing face moisturizer, leaving your skin soft and supple. Apply just a couple drops to your face after cleansing, either once or twice a day depending on your skin type. It can also be used all over your body for soft, silky skin.

Toning The Skin

Argan oil can also be used as a toner- simply add it to your usual toner for some extra moisture on days when the weather is especially skin-damaging, or for periods when your skin is feeling dry.

For The Lips

You can create a lovely exfoliating scrub to care for dry lips by mixing argan oil with some brown sugar and vanilla extract. Rub the exfoliator on your lips to remove dry skin and soften, then rinse off and put your favorite lip balm on.

To Condition Hair

Argan makes a great hair conditioner, especially for dry and damaged hair. After showering, massage argan oil into your ends to prevent split ends and to the rest of your hair if desired. I like to put a little in my hair when it’s dry to give it some extra shine and reduce those annoying frizzy flyaways.

In The Bath

I love to take long, relaxing baths, and argan oil can bring your bath time pampering to a whole new level. Splash some in and you’ll get out with softer skin than ever. I found this especially effective when I was pregnant with my children- I believe that frequent argan oil baths and moisturizing helped prevent stretch marks.
